July Home Updates

July was a month full of renovations. We had to get a full roof replacement, including all new plywood. I worked with a local roofing company for this project. With a new paint sprayer we painted the exterior cedar shutters black (which my mom and I made ourselves a few years ago)…thank you Pinterest. Painted the shed, front porch railings, the backyard deck and the rental unit entrance railing. Added lighting inside and outside the shed and installed a ring camera and light. I also wanted power inside the shed so I had the electricians wire in a new outlet. Everyone told me I couldn’t vault the ceiling in such a short time… and that if I did, it would cost wayyyy over budget. I compromised and we vaulted part of the ceiling. It completely opened up the space. We had to have new insulation installed, so we went with a local company. I swore I would ever attempt drywall again so to keep the project moving, I hired this out. The next update was electrical, four dimmable canned lights, replaced an old boob light. I leveled the floors with about 5 bags of floor leveler. Replaced the carpet replaced with luxury vinyl plank flooring to match the kitchen which we replaced a few years ago, and is still holding up great. We had to hire a local gc company to finish laying the LVP, since it became too difficult. The closet was upgraded with new more storage and doors I found on Facebook Marketplace, 15 minutes away for a quarter of the price at what I was going to buy them at…Thx mom!! To create more room to walk behind the shed we built earlier this year, I dug out dirt along the side of the house. In the process, I discovered that the mortar in that area needed repair, which is now on the ever evolving todo list. It’s exciting to see such significant changes come to life in just one month and I’m especially grateful for the local businesses (and even a Facebook Marketplace find!) Next, I’ll be focusing on finishing the mortar work and layering in the smaller touches.
